Recent Rotational Visits to ASEAN Member Countries: Johari Says Plan to Complete Before September Next Year

As Malaysia is set to become the chairman of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) next year, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tan Sri Johari, said that the conference is planning and will soon begin rotational visits to member countries.

Johari, who is also the chairman of the 46th AIPA, said the visits are planned to be completed before the conference scheduled for next September.

“Our attitude is, if possible, we hope to visit all neighboring countries that are ASEAN members before the conference next September... I will try to visit all ASEAN member countries as much as possible.

“May the Almighty bless, it is being planned, and I estimate it may take place in the short term, until the House session adjourns on December 12 this year. I am planning to visit the speakers of the ASEAN member countries.”

He disclosed this information at a press conference held at the Parliament building today.

Johari said, in line with Malaysia becoming the incoming ASEAN chairman next year, he has been proactive, including visiting Vietnam from the 23rd to the 25th of this month, to strengthen diplomatic relations between Malaysia and ASEAN member countries.

He stated that this visit focuses on Malaysia’s preparations to host the 46th AIPA, with the aim of enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, clean energy, and cultural exchange, thereby strengthening an inclusive and sustainable ASEAN.

During the visit, Johari paid courtesy calls to Vietnamese President Nhan Chau, General Secretary of the Communist Party Trong Sir, Prime Minister Minh Chinh Pham, and Speaker of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man.
